Lottery rules and terms
Last updated: 29 October 2026. Please read these rules before you play.
1. Definitions
In these rules: "we", "us" and "the promoter" mean The Classical Association of Scotland: Aberdeen and North of Scotland Centre, Scottish Charity No. SC049690. "The lottery" means the Classics Lottery. "Player" means a person who has registered and paid for an entry. "Draw" means a monthly draw of the lottery.
2. The promoter
The lottery is a small society lottery under the Gambling Act 2005, promoted by The Classical Association of Scotland: Aberdeen and North of Scotland Centre, 42 Bon Accord Terrace, Aberdeen AB11 6DU. It will be registered with Aberdeen City Council. No entries will be sold until that registration is in force. The lottery is run for the charity's purposes and not for private or commercial gain.
3. Eligibility
The lottery is open to residents of Great Britain aged 18 or over. Trustees and volunteers who run a draw may not enter that draw. We may refuse any registration without giving a reason.
4. Age verification
We verify the age and identity of every player before accepting payment, using an electronic check against public records or, if that is not possible, a copy of photo ID. Players under 18 cannot take part.
5. How to enter
Players register using the form on our website. Each entry receives a unique six-digit number which remains the same for every draw while the player continues to play. An entry is only valid once payment for that draw has been received.
6. Ticket price and payment
Each entry costs £1 per draw. Every ticket costs the same. A player may hold no more than 5 entries per draw. Payment is by debit card or Direct Debit through a secure third-party provider. We do not accept credit cards. Payment for a draw must be received by 23:59 on the Wednesday before the draw.
7. The draw
Draws take place on the last Friday of each month at 12:00 noon UK time, or on the nearest working day if that Friday is a public holiday in Scotland. Three winning numbers are selected by a random number generator, witnessed by at least two people who are not players in that draw. A record of each draw is kept for at least three years.
8. Prizes
The prize fund for each draw is 40% of the ticket income for that draw. First prize is 60% of the prize fund, second prize 25% and third prize 15%, each rounded down to the nearest penny. Each entry can win no more than one prize per draw. Prize values are published before each draw.
9. Paying prizes
Winners are told by email within 2 working days of the draw. Prizes are paid automatically by bank transfer within 14 days, once we have confirmed the winner's identity and age. No cash alternative or substitute prize is offered.
10. Unclaimed prizes
If we cannot contact a winner or pay a prize within 6 months of the draw, the prize is added to the funds used for the charity's purposes.
11. Use of proceeds
At least 50% of ticket income is applied to the charity's purposes. No more than 10% is used for expenses, including payment fees. We publish the figures for each draw and each year.
12. Cancellation and refunds
Players may cancel at any time by emailing us. Payments for draws that have not yet taken place are refunded. Under consumer law you may cancel within 14 days of registering and receive a full refund for any draw that has not yet happened.
13. Limits and self-exclusion
Players may set a personal limit below the maximum of 5 entries. A lower limit takes effect immediately; a higher limit takes effect after 7 days. Players may self-exclude for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. A self-exclusion cannot be ended early. During self-exclusion we will not accept entries or send lottery marketing.
14. Under-age play
Any entry from a person under 18 is void. They cannot win a prize, and all payments are refunded. Any prize paid to a person later found to be under 18 must be returned.
15. Changes to the lottery
We may suspend or end the lottery, or change these rules, by giving players at least 30 days' notice by email and on our website, unless a change is required sooner by law or by our licensing authority. If the lottery ends, payments for future draws are refunded.
16. Complaints
Complaints should be emailed to [email protected]. We will acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and give a full response within 8 weeks. If you remain dissatisfied, you may contact Aberdeen City Council's licensing team or the Gambling Commission.
17. Liability
We are not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed or invalid because of technical failures outside our control. Nothing in these rules limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
18. Data protection
We use players' personal data only to run the lottery and meet our legal duties, as described in our Privacy Policy.
19. Governing law
These rules are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction.
